Country Roads 50K Relay

Imagine a dirt road, full of pot holes, with a creek bank and some cane poles, catching channel cats. It’s a little more country than that. Over the next 50 kilometers, (the course is not USATF certified), your eyes will soon be opened to a world full of beauty, charm, and adventure!

Starting at the Prairie Sunset Trail Park, Main and Santa Fe, Goddard, Ks. the first 2.1 miles are trail running.  Running east on the Trail to 151st right turn and heading south 1.4 miles. Here is your first runner exchange point. Take a right turn onto 31st St. So., Then heading west; the next 7 miles are hard packed dirt, gravel country roads that are mostly flat with a few short rolling hills. Make a left turn at 247th St. W. heading south 1 mile to Lake Afton. 2nd exchange is just north of MacArthur Rd before you enter Lake Afton. Turning left into Lake Afton area, the road is paved on the 3.5 mile loop around the lake. You may see visitors enjoying boating, water skiing, camping and fishing. This area is also a great area for bird and wildlife watching.

Running north, out of the lake area, mile 15 thru 17 is hard packed dirt and gravel. 3rd exchange and half way point here. Take a right turn onto 23rd St. So. Then head east 2 miles to 215th St. Turn left to run on 215th St. heading north for ½ mile. Turn left, heading west onto the rail trail section. Former train tracks now converted to a crushed gravel trail. Trees and foliage will be in full spring bloom for the next 11 miles. Your 4th and last exchange will be in Garden Plain

Next is your tour of the history rich Goddard, Ks. At Walnut St turn right heading south making  a left on 23rd St heading east, another left on Main St heading north, to 1st St where you’ll make left, a right on to 3rd St, right on Elm St heading back to the Rail Trail where you make a right to the finish line.

Gatorade and water will be offered at aid stations/exchange points 1-4. Gu will be at aide station 4 only.

Cash prizes and belt buckles for the top 3 solo finishers and top 3 team finishers. All finishers will receive a finisher's shirt.



Leg distances:

1st leg- approximately 3.5 miles

2nd leg- approximately 6 miles

3rd leg- approximately 6 miles; ½ way point

4th leg- approximately 7.5 miles

5th and final leg 8 miles



Running surfaces:

            Dirt roads- 10.5 miles

            Trail- 12.0 miles

            Pavement- 8.5 miles= 31 miles of run fun!!
